Within this Faculty, the Institute for Sociological Research (IRS) is an ideal institutional home for European projects, along with Swiss and city-based projects. The Department of Sociology and the Institute for Sociological Research are among the five best university structures in the discipline in Switzerland. Within the IRS, the Sustainable Consumption group, coordinated by Marlyne Sahakian, specializes in research and teaching related to food and energy consumption as well as ‘sustainable wellbeing’ studies. Specifically, the group has led several projects related to the role of consumers and citizens in reduced or improved household energy usage, including a Swiss national grant on Household energy consumption; a European project on Energy Living Labs (ENERGISE); and a recent grant supported by the Federal Office of Energy, on wellbeing and energy futures.
