As a research unit of UQÀM and Polytechnique Montreal, the International Reference Center for Life Cycle of Products, Services and Systems (CIRAIG) is a research group and a center of expertise on sustainability and life cycle thinking. Through leading-edge research, expert services on sustainability, and education, the CIRAIG aims to shape and implement metrics focused on life cycle thinking. Established in 2001, the CIRAIG is internationally recognized for its solid scientific research work and its ten years of applied experience. The CIRAIG supports industry, governments, organizations and consumers in their path towards a true sustainable development supported by life cycle thinking. With a focus on responsible production, consumption and governance, the CIRAIG aims to develop, interpret and integrate the knowledge and tools to implement life cycle thinking towards sustainable development. The CIRAIG’s main research unit, the International Life Cycle Chair (ILC Chair), is a leading reference in the field of sustainable tools and has made remarkable scientific achievements during its first (2007-2011) and second (2012-2016) mandates which were conducted with international industrial partners from key sectors of the economy, including energy, transportation, telecommunications, metals, chemical products, retail, food, aerospace, waste management, pulp and paper and financial services. Now on its third mandate, the ILC Chair conducts leading edge, interdisciplinary life cycle research and develops results-oriented tools on complex and critical sustainability issues in collaboration with its partners to meet their needs. Its scientific research program hence resolutely takes into account environmental and social LCA as strategic decision-making support tools and value creation.
